Natural Gift activates the effect of the berry

v21.1 Natural Gift activates the effect of the berry 1.00

This resource pertains to version 21.1 of Pokémon Essentials.
Pokémon Essentials Version
v21.1 ✅
I was playing an Eeveelution format and noticed that Natural Gift is very good on Flareon; it could hold Liechi Berry to get a 100 BP Grass move that increases attack.. Until I realized NG just DESTROYS THE BERRY?! SO YOU GET NO BERRY EFFECT?!

This pissed me off so much that I had to channel this anger into fixing this sin by making this very script!

Natural Gift is a physical move introduced in Generation 4; it gains a new type and power from 80 to 100 depending on the type of berry it's holding and then consumes the berry after the attack. If it is not holding a berry, it fails.

The berry is consumed even when Natural Gift misses or gets protected against, or if the target is immune; the user does not get the berry effect if this happens. It is NOT consumed if Fire Nature Gift is canceled due to heavy rain or if Water Nature Gift is canceled due to extremely harsh sunlight because that considers the move as failing.

Funnily enough, if Red Card forces the user to leave the battlefield, then the berry is meant to NOT be consumed. But in Essentials, the berry IS consumed.

If Powder prevents the move from being executed, the Berry is not consumed.

Status-curing berries IMMEDIATELY cure your status and get eaten, so Natural Cure would just fail if you used it while you were put to sleep with a Chesto Berry, for example.

HP-restoring berries work as expected- including pinch berries (berries that restore 1/3 HP), which will confuse Pokémon with certain natures.

  • Sitrus Berry, Psychic, 80 BP, Restores 1/4 max HP
  • Figy Berry, Bug, 80 BP, Restores 1/3 max HP; confuses if -Atk Nature
  • Wiki Berry, Rock, 80 BP, Restores 1/3 max HP; confuses if -SpA Nature
  • Mago Berry, Ghost, 80 BP, Restores 1/3 max HP; confuses if -Spe Nature
  • Aguav Berry, Dragon, 80 BP, Restores 1/3 max HP; confuses if -SpD Nature
  • Iapapa Berry, Dark, 80 BP, Restores 1/3 max HP; confuses if -Def Nature
  • Oran Berry, Poison, 80 BP, Restores 10 HP

Leppa Berry restores the PP of Natural Gift if it is not consumed by the user having a move missing 10+ PP.
- Leppa Berry, Fighting, 80 BP, Restores 10 PP

EV-reducing berries have no effect during battle, including reducing EVs.

Damage-reducing berries (such as Occa Berry and Chilan Berry) have no effect and do not reduce the damage from the next attack.

Chip damage berries and Micle Berries have no effect in battle.

Custap Berry does not add priority to your next move, which really sucks :C Talk to me if you can figure out how to change that!

And finally, the most important ones, Stat Boosting Berries, work as expected.
  • Liechi Berry, Grass, 100 BP, Raises Attack by 1 stage
  • Ganlon Berry, Ice, 100 BP, Raises Defense by 1 stage
  • Kee Berry, Fairy, 100 BP, Raises Defense by 1 stage
  • Salac Berry, Fighting, 100 BP, Raises Speed by 1 stage
  • Petaya Berry, Poison, 100 BP, Raises Sp. Atk by 1 stage
  • Apicot Berry, Ground, 100 BP, Raises Sp. Def by 1 stage
  • Maranga Berry, Dark, 100 BP, Raises Sp. Def by 1 stage
  • Lansat Berry, Flying, 100 BP, Raises Critical Hit Ratio by 2 (1/4 chance)
  • Starf Berry, Psychic, 100 BP, Raises a random stat by 2 stages

The pinch berries could be used as surprise coverage while also recovering HP.

Pokemon = FERROTHORN,40
Item = WIKIBERRY
Moves = NATURALGIFT

Ferrothorn is known for its wonderful bulk but hates Fire types. Wiki Berry would allow it to hit a Fire type switching in WHILE healing 1/3 max HP. This is unfortunately the best example I could find since Dusknoir apparently got Leech Life, since when did it get that?

Stat-boosting berries are very useful for building up stat boosts.

Pokemon = TREVENANT,40
Item = LIECHIBERRY
Moves = NATURALGIFT
Ability = HARVEST

Liechi Berry Natural Gift gives Trevenant a 100 BP Grass Stab move that gives an Attack boost, on top of Harvest being able to restore that berry over and over to snowball. Starf Berry could also be used to build up various stats in conjunction with X-Scissor to eliminate Dark types that would be immune.

Pokemon = ESPEON,40
Item = KEEBERRY
Moves = NATURALGIFT,STOREDPOWER

Stored Power Sweepers often struggle with Dark Types, especially if the user has low defense and so can't take Dark STAB. Kee Berry gives them a Fairy-type move to chip them down while giving them a defense boost to take more attacks and boost Stored Power.

Pokemon = SLOWKING,40
Form = 1 # Galar Slowking
Item = KEEBERRY
Moves = NATURALGIFT,BELCH

Belch is normally an awful move, as there is almost no way to force a Pokémon to eat a berry. But now they can and will have a 120 BP Poison Special Attack for the rest of the battle! Even after switching out.

That's the best example I could think of! Ripen and Cud Chew would also be very good synergy with this, but they are only on Pokémon who would rather not try to do this.
