Decoupled Abilities

v21.1 Decoupled Abilities 1.4

This resource pertains to version 21.1 of Pokémon Essentials.
Pokémon Essentials Version
v21.1 ✅
In the main series, and therefore default Essentials, there are some abilities that belong to one species and one species only. A significant number of them control how a particular species changes forms mid-battle, but some do other things.

But if one wants a randomizer mode in their game, than these abilities, when thrown onto Pokémon they weren't intended to, end up doing absolutely nothing. An entire attribute that can make or break a randomized entity, deemed useless. And as more and more such abilities are introduced, the likelihood of running into one increases.

So I've written a script that makes these abilities not useless on other mons!

The following abilities are affected:
  • Battle Bond - when activated by a Pokémon that isn't Greninja, this ability behaves the way it does in Gen 9: raising the Attack, Special Attack, and Speed of the user by one stage each. Greninja uses the Gen 7 version of the ability (transforming into Ash-Greninja) even in Gen 9 mechanics.
  • Comatose - The only change to this ability is decoupling it from Komala.
  • Commander - when activated by a Pokémon that isn't Tatsugiri, this ability will proc on any ally Pokémon that is either 25x the weight or 40x the height of the user, but not Dondozo.
  • Disguise - when activated by a Pokémon that isn't Mimikyu, the user negates one hit of damage (and if in Gen 8+ mechanics, will take 1/8 of its health when that hit is negated). There is no visual form change like there is for Mimikyu.
  • Embody Aspect -This is treated as four abilities, so a setting exists to combine them into one, whose behavior changes based on the user's hold item. If the setting isn't active, this quartet's only change is being decoupled from Ogerpon.
  • Flower Gift - The only change to this ability is decoupling it from Cherrim. Sunshine Form Cherrim is merely a cosmetic change and the ability's other effects work fine on other Pokémon.
  • Forecast - when activated by a Pokémon that isn't Castform, the user becomes a type based on the current weather (Fire in sun, Water in rain, Ice in hail/snow. A setting exists to allow non-Castform Pokémon to become Ground in sandstorm despite Castform not having a sand form). If you have my Multitype UI plugin installed, this type is added to the Pokémon's existing types rather than replacing them, allowing for the possibility of triple-typed Pokémon.
  • Gulp Missile - when activated by a Pokémon that isn't Cramorant, the user will still gain a (now-hidden) effect when using Surf or Dive. This effect still properly does damage to opponents who attack the user, as well as lowering their defense or paralyzing them depending on the user's HP at the time of using Surf or Dive.
  • Hunger Switch - when activated by a Pokémon that isn't Morpeko, this changes the user's secondary type to Electric or Dark every other turn. If you have my Multitype UI plugin installed, this type is added to the user's existing types instead of replacing them. This does not change Aura Wheel's type when used by the user.
  • Ice Face - when activated by a Pokémon that isn't Eiscue, this ability negates a single physical attack against the user, which restores in hail and snow. There is no visual change like there is for Eiscue.
  • Multitype - when activated by a Pokémon that isn't Arceus, this ability changes the user's type based on the Plate they are holding (non-Arceus users do not change type based on Z-Crystals). If you have my Multitype UI plugin installed, this type is added to the user's existing types instead of replacing them.
  • Poison Puppeteer - this ability has no reason to be locked to Pecharunt. All it does is confuse targets if they get poisoned by the holder of this ability. That limit has been removed.
  • Power Construct - when activated by a Pokémon that isn't Zygarde, this ability buffs the user when they reach below half health. These buffs are based on the difference between 10% and 50% Zygardes. If the user reaches a quarter health before the ability procs, it will instead buff based on the difference between 10% and Complete Zygardes.
  • RKS System - when activated by a Pokémon that isn't Silvally, this ability changes the user's type based on the Memory they are holding. If you have my Multitype UI plugin installed, this type is added to the user's existing types instead of replacing them.
  • Schooling - when activated by a Pokémon that isn't Wishiwashi, this ability significantly reduces their stats (while slightly increasing their Speed). However, in battle and with the proper level, their stats are instead buffed by the same multipliers they are reduced by. These multipliers are based on the harmonic mean of the base stats of Wishiwashi's two forms.
  • Shields Down - when activated by a Pokémon that isn't Minior, this ability actually adjusts the user's base stats so that the higher of the user's Attack and Defense goes into Defense and the lower goes into Attack, with the Special stats behaving similarly. However, once the user is below half health, this effect is reversed, and their Speed stat doubled. There is no visual change like there is for Minior.
  • Stance Change - when activated by a Pokémon that isn't Aegislash, new Attack and Defense forms are created by multiplying the stats the form is named after by 1.5 and multiplying the stats the other form is named after by 0.5. There is no visual change like there is for Aegislash. Also, you can switch to Defense form by using any protect-like move, not just King's Shield.
  • Teraform Zero - this ability doesn't necessarily need to be locked to Terapagos. It just gets rid of weather and terrain the first time the user is sent out during battle. That lock has been removed.
  • Tera Shell - when activated by a Pokémon that isn't Terapagos, all moves will be single-resisted at most when the user is at full HP. This ability might be the reason I have to release an update when Ludicious releases the Extended Battle UI plugin (depending on how Ludicious handles the effectiveness UI).
  • Tera Shift - when activated by a Pokémon that isn't Terapagos, this ability buffs the user's base stats by the difference between baby Terapagos and Terastal-form Terapagos. It does not change to a different ability after the buff, though.
  • Zen Mode - when activated by a Pokémon that isn't Darmanitan, the user enters "a Zen-like state" when below half health. What this state does depends on the user's default mode. Ice- and Psychic- types will change similarly to the difference between Galarian Darmanitan's two forms (becoming secondary Fire and more of an attacker), Pokemon that are both Fire and Psychic type already become secondary Ghost type and more of a Special attacker, and all remaining mons will change similarly to the difference between Unovan Darmanitan's two forms (becoming secondary Psychic type and more of a defender)
  • Zero to Hero - when activated by a Pokémon that isn't Palafin, the user multiplies their base stats by certain amounts (based on the difference between Palafin's two forms) upon switching out.
Any of these abilities can be removed from consideration by going into the Settings file and removing them from the array of affected abilities.

Most decoupled abilities that were previously unlosable or unTraceable are now able to be lost or Traced. The exceptions are marked above in blue, as they affect the user's out-of-battle stats or types.

Possible updates include:
  • Maybe combining As One into one actual ability and then getting it to read its secondary ability from the fused attribute.
